An exceptionally example of the unrestrained strength that only the best furniture makers in any particular age are able to manifest in wood; this piece must surely have been commissioned as a statement of very great wealth and power. Unusually it has no markings of the maker, except for the patent plate on the winding mechanism, though it seems to take elements from the designs of George Smith and from the Scottish cabinetmaker William Trotter, it is a truly accomplished work by an individual who knew and subscribed to the best pattern books of the day.
Further research is being undertaken.
